remember that what the Bible says isn't always to be taken literally.
these are just stories to help the people understand or have something to believe in. i'm in no way putting religions down, but it can be kinda assimilated to children believing in santa claus, the tooth fairy, etc.
think of the Bible as sort of a poetic form of interpreting life.
because of this, religion and science sometimes clash.
sometimes people take the Bible literally and say that Adam and Eve really DID talk and everything, but in the ooold days, oral tradition was something everyone relied on.
no one knows if Adam and Eve really DID exist, and if those were their real names.
nevertheless, the people relied and still rely on their faith in God, and this helps them relate to God's creations on earth.
science's theory of evolution and religion's theory are different. one is to state the factual evidence of human evolution throughout the ages and the other was a story passed on from generation to generation to explain the beginning of the world as best as they could understand it.
:]
hope it helps.

This is only my opinion, but I believe Adam and Eve were not the first actual people, but perhaps the leaders of the first city. They were so successful that others either joined them or died out. It would have had to have been early in our evolution (when the grasses evolved, to allow for farms and herding.

If you don't believe in God, we evolved from apes through the largely random process of natural selection, and Adam and Eve are no more than fictional characters in a morality play.
If you believe in God and are not ignorant, then God evolved us from monkey to man, and Adam and Eve are representative of the first modern humans to whom God granted intelligence and social skills.
If you believe in God and are ignorant, Adam and Eve were the first two humans, period. They had two sons named Cain and Abel, and no daughters, yet somehow the human race continued. But not through incest, of course - some other non-sinful way that nobody can explain.

I think Adam & Eve were larger than people today. Maybe like a 100 feet tall. But the body shape were pretty much the same.

because you are hearing the answers about our origins from religion and the other from science. They are two completely different theories.

evolution....
it wasnt fit for man to walk hunched or to be "stupid" (in your words). survival of the fittest allowed the smarter, more advanced humans to survive.. giving us what we have today
