A hobby is something one does by choice for fun... biking, sex, sky diving, model airplanes, arts and crafts, maybe gardening... lots of others.

A habit is something that you do because its a pattern of behavior you engage in, smoking might be an example (though it probably qualifies as an addiction) - eating a particular meal on a particular day of the week might qualify as a habit... or cleaning the toilet every monday - shaving everyday... doing bills every 15th of the month...

Things like that are habits, they aren't necessarily enjoyable, you simply do them at a particular time or in response to a particular stimulus... even something like sex or masturbation can become habitual... though that's not necessarily a good thing...

Habits are things you do cause you think you have to. Hobbies are something that you do for fun or to keep you amused. Sometimes Hobbies quit being hobbies and become habit. Thats when they stop being fun.

Habits are usually negative; or are things that we do instinctively or unknowingly. Hobbies are things we do for fun, or are things we engage in as an activity; usually positive things.

There is a 'fine-line' between having a 'hobby' or 'hobbies', and 'mental-illness' IMO

If someones' 'hobby' tends to 'take-over' other aspects of their life, then it 'may-be' time to seek professional help. IMPO
