Here's the main catch. I live in Japan. I don't know if that is an advantage or a disadvantage. I have never really given myself 100% to doing music, it's mostly been a hobby, but I am feeling like maybe realistically the opportunity has passed.

Keep at it. Morph the flavor a bit. Add some more instrumental jamming. It is music after all. You can do anything you want.

there are plenty of artists like george micheal, tom jones, cliff richard, elton john, mariah carey, jennifer lopez, etc, etc who spend a lifetime turning out crap music...i am sure you'll do better, so keep it up

If you enjoy it you should do it for that reason as long as you are not neglecting your responsibilities
