I have hundreds of files that have a common part, such as "picture ab12.gif", "picture 34.jpeg", "pictureabcd.bmp", etc.. I need to remove "picture" from all the files. It is very tideous to do it one by one in windows explorer. I remember under "DOS" or "UNIX" you can use a single command to achieve this. Is there a similar way to do it in Windows?
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

1. I still want to keep the "ab12", "34", "abcd" parts, only remove "picture".
2. I don't have access UNIX system, so I can't transfer the files to UNIX sys and rename them and then transfer them back.

I bet you already found out that "choosing multiple files and renaming them" does not work. Actually there is no way to do what you want to do. The best way is to use DOS on your own computer . Have you tried that?

In windows you can rename many files at once. Highlight all the files you wish to change by clicking on each while holding the CNTL button down or selecting a range by highlighting the first and then clicking on the bottom of the range while holding the SHIFT button down

Once multiple files are selected right click anyone in the selection and select rename.
Provide a new name and keep the same extension (dot and three letters at end of name)
When you rename the file windows will automatically add an underscore and sequence number to each file
