I took a generic Dollar store prgnancy test 3 days after my missed period. I did not urinate a lot (only about a tablespoon, if that). I urinated into a collection cup and used the enclosed dropper to drop the required 4 drops of urine into the test. It was negative. Is there a chance that the test read negative because I urinated only a little bit?

I am thinking I did not produce enough urine in one urination to get correct results. I kind of forced the urination.

I would say it was negative because your hormone level is not high enough to give a positive result. Usually, the less you urinate, the better, because it is more concentrated. Make sure your urine is a really dark yellow otherwise it is not concentrated enough and you are more likely to get a false negative.

No, you only need 4 drops. You are either not pregnant or tested too early.

In my experience, the Dollar Store tests take a little more hcg than most tests. Try again in a few days with first morning urine or after you've held it for 3-4 hours.

the amt of urine doesn't matter you either have the hcg or not the 2 things that would lead me to say re test are in the very early stages of pregmancy the first morning urine is the stronger to detect hcg in urine or simply your too early to test some test are not as sensitive but most can detect 7 days after missed period. i would give it a couple more days and retest or go to your doctor for a blood test that will be able to detect now. I hope the test comes out with the response you desire..

Surprisingly, cheap tests purchased at dollar stores or on the Internet are often more sensitive and reliable than expensive store brands. HPT's are like soda: very cheap to make, and marked up quite a bit for retail.

Can using too much or too little pee affect the results? Sometimes, yes. Too little urine and the test simply won't work-- the control line will not appear, because there will not be enough moisture to trigger the chemical reaction. Too much pee and you run the risk of over-saturating the test-- in which case the control line will wash away. (See the importance of control lines now? :) It is impossible to trigger a false positive simply by using too much or too little pee.

It is very difficult to actually render a test invalid with either too much or too little urine (though this seems to be a commonly-toted explanation by HPT phone reps when women complain about problem tests!) See my experiments with under-saturation and over-saturation.

I suggest peeing in a cup and dipping the test rather than peeing directly on the stick

It doesn't not matter how much you urinate. And the dollar tree tests are accurate, I've used them a few times and they've always been correct.

The best time to take the test is in the morning when you first wake up...that is when your urine is most concentrated.

Good luck!

The best time to take a pregnancy test is with your first morning pee. My sister used the dollar store test and came back positive, so it's not necessarily the test. Wait a couple days and try it again.

I totally believe that the dollar store tests are the best. Me and my friends use them and they have always been right on. Use your first urine of the mornigns though. Also maybe wait another week and test again. You coudl be pregnant or just stressed.

To be on the safe side, buy a reputable pregnancy test and take it first thing in the morning when you get up.

Absolutely. You need to get a more reliable test.
