Can someone please give me some advice?

I'm a store manager. I'm very good with people, but I am not brilliant at running a business, as I'm not a very practical person . My lack of assertiveness lets me down. (Yes, I know I'm in the wrong job!! I went into retail after uni because it was what I knew, and because I couldn't afford to do my PhD as planned.)

I've discovered that I have a real gift for doing SWOT analysis on companies and stores... I've heard several times that mine are amongst the best that HR people have ever seen. That's all very nice, but what on earth can I do with this 'gift'?!! Sensible answers please! :)

Surely there must be some aspect of retail I can go into where I can make good use of this skill.... please help!

Hi, have you looked into strategic or business analysis positions? My other thought is looking into six sigma type jobs. If you are good at breaking down what's going on in a given situation you might just be able to take that knack and streamline whole business functions. Big corps pay big money for that!

Maybe you could start a consultancy?

Set up a business where you could do SWOT analyses for small businesses, and help them act on the results.

You can get swot sheets online, and it's easy enough to identify strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities and threats, but it's what to do with that information that someone involved in a small business can find difficult - maybe you could specialise in drawing up strategies based on findings.

Good luck!

Have a look here: http://www.businessballs.com/swotanalysisfreetemplate.htm and here: http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_05.htm Could your SWOT talents be of help to companies, large or small? Could there be an opportunity for you to be a SWOT consultant? Do reseach along these line and see what comes up. Contact Business Link: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/ for advice (assuming you are in the UK).

Marketing is probably a good bet, Strength Weakness, opportunity, threats is a good basis for any marketing strategy,

But being good at one thing is not enough for a career, brush up on marketing models, if necessary take an course to help you,

OU certificate in management was pretty good

In my view go for a teaching certificate and become a teacher. Education needs people like you.
