The general feeling is that a 5 to 7" long erect penis is found over the world as common, though individuals with lesser or longer lengths are not rare.
If your question relates to the length that is needed for satisfying a woman during intercourse, then any length 2 to 5 inches when erect would be enough. The pleasurable sensation in women's vagina extends to around 2 to 3 inches from the opening. Any thrust of the penis too deep inside the vagina is painful to the woman, and an understanding man wouldnt like to give pain to his partner during such a pleasurable act.
You will thus see that a longer penis is not an asset, but a disadvantage. What is needed is to make the best use of what you have, and this you will learn from experience!

It really depends on the guy... It would seem funny for some guys to have a really big penis... Where on other guys... it would seem perfectly natural... or would be expected of them...
The girth and all around "meatiness" of a penis is also very important as Diva has pointed out. I would rather have a meaty penis on the short side, rather than say... a longer penis that was really skinny and maybe a little crooked...
Average length is about 6" with Asians on the low side and blacks on the high...

Every guys penis is different and therefore not one the same, usually the sizes vary by heredity, although on average a mans pernis runs erect from 6"-8", Soft sometimes 3"-5". girth is a selling point for your partner however 2" and really fat is not always favorable.

1-4 inches soft and 4-7 inches hard! Most are about 3 inches soft and 5-6 inches hard
