If you're using glass bottles, in theory they've been decontaminated before they are reused and the putting of the bottle cap on top is supposed to keep the rim nice and sterile.

However, I've heard of people finding things in their bottled pop.

On the other hand, recycled materials are melted down and the process is supposed to kill all the germs.

The process of melting down, refining, and creating a new product takes high temperatures which will kill bacteria and disease.
