let me first start off by congratulating you! UCLA is a great school, and pre-med.. wow! good for you! your family must be so incredibly proud of you. if you ever have questions, you should never hesitate to see an academic counselor at your school. they can answer all questions that you have. bug them as much as neeeded!! (: i'm not going to lie, college work is significantly harder that high school work. i dont know how it works for pre-med programs but will be periodic tests, midterms and finals. depending on the teacher, there will be homework and it will be graded. the main thing with college is that you're kind of on your own. there's no parent-teacher conferences and the professor will not be on your back if you dont do the work or if you fail a test. it's very easy to fall behind because most likely you will be given an reading assignment, but there's no way for the professor to see if you had done it, especially if you're in a class of 200. i cannot stress how important it is for the teacher to know your name. participate in class as much as possible (do NOT care about looking like a nerd - it's total competition) and i highly recommend going to the teacher's office hours several time throughout the semester. its a great way for the professor to get to know you, and for you to get help with any work. i recommend ratemyprofessor.com when picking out professors. also, time management is key. i know with science, there is a lot of memorizing, so there will be times that you cannot go out and party and have to stay in to study - its with any major. be sure to pick up an organizer the second you start - it will be your bible. good luck and again, good for you!

I've taken lots of science courses, labs and lab homework, lots of reading, exams about every 5 semesters in the book. Usually at least one or two major projects per class. You will do lots of memorizing such as about diseases, bacteria, viruses, etc.
Keep up with your reading, manage your time well and give up a social life when need be. If you are a good student now, you should be fine in college, it's just about the time management and discipline.
Take advantage of study groups, assign people different parts of the project to share with the group to cover more territory faster. Use free or cheap group tutoring if it's offered for extra reinforcement - it will make a difference in your GPA.
Depending upon your school's standards, a 78 might be flunking in a science course, that's pretty standard at the better-rated schools.
Also, pick up the APA/MLA style book your school recommends and be sure your paper criteria is covered thoroughly. Always proofread all your papers at least twice before turning them in. Some professors will be very picky about written work.

In college, you're graded much differently than you are in high school. Usually your grade in a class is based off of only a few tests over the semester, and papers, depending on the class. You also have to do a lot of reading. I think the hardest part about college work is that you have to be a lot more self-motivated...professors won't be on your back reminding you to do your homework or turn things in.

I do not know approximately the University of California, however I do have two years of school revel in. Let me inform you, I was once particularly well in prime institution, mainly in math (continuously bought A). Then while I went to school, I practically bought kicked out the primary 12 months. I failed precalculus and math was my exceptional field. You ought to get ready for the main issue you can face in school. Study everyday. If you are taking five hours of sophistication an afternoon, then research five further hours an afternoon (no longer adding weekends), a million hour for each and every magnificence. Use sundays to research or paintings as good, however do not overload your self. Remember to take breaks in among. If you do that, then you can get the complete saturday unfastened (its what I do). As for the essays and papers, to restrict having issues, begin lookig for knowledge the identical day they supply you the field. Work on it bit by bit, day-to-day, and you can do best. Also, in my school, theres a writing middle wherein they present aid for writing essays. If there may be one wherein you cross, then take your draft to them and they will appear it over and supply you strategies to upgrade it. Make definite its performed no less than two days earlier than you flip it in so you might have time to difference something you would discover fallacious. Trust me while I say that the primary 12 months can be a mission, however from the moment 12 months forth, after your used to how matters are, it'll grow to be simpler. Its nonetheless tough, however very attainable (I handed the precalculus magnificence for the period of my moment 12 months with an A). Good good fortune with College and I desire this helped. Remember, on the finish it'll all be valued at it.

Classes normally last longer than high school classes. Some instructors won't even give tests they will give research assignments or group presentations. When selecting a teacher, ask a around to see what kind of reputation the teacher has. Each teacher/instructor/professor is different and they will do their grades differently.

Some classes like Math have actual homework which is cumbersome and annoying, but most classes have Midterms and finals. That's it. 100% of your grade. Labs are actually not that hard in science, just get a good lab partner. I learned the lesson of not asking the hot sorority girl first, but instead asking the moderately attractive korean girl.
