My stepson came over tonight and brought over a Korn CD that his mom gave him for Christmas. It isn't edited and still has all the bad words. He is only 7 and I do not believe he needs to be listening to Korn. I was in highschool when Korn was really popular and I know what kind of things they say. How can my husband talk to his exwife about this without seeming like an a$$hole???

He does not need to listen to that at all, you are right. Is it possible that the mom does not know that it was not edited? Maybe he could just nicely say, "I don't know if you realized that the CD contains language that we both agree is inappropriate. Would it be ok if we exchanged this CD for one that is edited?" If he is really nice about it hopefully she won't get upset.

If I were you, I would have his dad forbid him from listening to it at your house. Again, he should be nice about it and explain that he does not aprove of the language being used. After all, when he is under your roof, he should follow your rules. If you do take it away when he visits, it would be really nice if you provided him with an edited copy to listen to until he goes back to mom!

He's definitely too young for Korn. Maybe creamed Korn, or a nice Korn puree. But seriously... ask the ex-wife if she could return it and get a clean version (try Wal-mart, they seem to sell censored versions of albums that aren't censored anywhere else). That won't fix all of the questionable subject matter, but it will at least bleep the bad words. Since you're only asking only for a different version of the same thing, it shouldn't be too offensive to the ex-wife, but it will hopefully get the message across that she needs to be more responsible about what she buys him.

If I had a son he would not be listening to Korn for sure. I think he should just calmly explain his point of view. Maybe she is oblivious to the fact that it has bad words in it? Who cares if he seem like an a hole, he is his son too.

Korn is tame compared to the stuff kids are listening to these days. Nowadays, the music is all about having sex all the time, and popping out baby after baby and babydaddies.

Trying to deny the kid access to that sort of music, if he's really into it, is just going to make him listen to it or acquire it behind your back. It would be better, in my opinion, to make sure he understands how you feel about the language used in the music. Even though he's only seven, he has likely been exposed to that in school - I know I was at that age - and it's nothing new to him. He will later discover there is much more to music, metal in particular, than Korn.

Ya , but Korn's rock though
Maybe you should wait for him till he turned 12, then allowed him to listen to Nu-Metal

but right now, try putting classic rock songs into his brain cells, especially from the 70s/80s

IM SURE HALF THE STUFF HE SEES ON TV IS MORE VIOLENT AND RACY THAN A KORN CD. DENYING HIM OF IT WILL ONLY MAKE HIM WANT TO LISTEN TO IT MORE AND HE MIGHT RESENT YOU AFTER THAT ! BY THE WAY KORN SPEAK OF REAL ISSUES THAT ARE GOING ON TODAY SOME KIDS FIND THE MUSIC INSPIRING BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

At lest he's not listening to rap...

But yeah, I think bands like korn should wait a couple years. .

Tell your husband your feelings (I agree he is too young) and let him decide on how to handle it. Or you could see if your husband could exchange it with an editted version.
