hello i have 1989 300e merc that i have lost the keys for ,i have a new ignition barrel and key ,but i am trouble getting the old barrel out. as i am 1600km from a merc dealer it is a case of having to do it myself , can you tell me how to get the old barrel out?

once you get the steering column open (considering the ignition lock is in the steering column), there should be some sort of pin on or near the barrel. just push that pin while turning the key or anything that can fit in the slot (screwdriver jammed in) and the cylinder should just slide out. At least that's the way it worked for me in my car.

Im pretty sure that you need a special tool from mercedes at some point in taking that apart. But since its so old you may not need the tool.
