So their kids will have unique names. It's understandable but there was one woman in St. Louis who wanted her son to have a Greek sounding name so she created a name for her son which sounded like Test-a-klees the problem is she spelled it Testicles.

Yup true story. It's okay to want to be unique but do it within reason. I know one African-American lady who gives her children names derived from Medieval Italian names.

Its not just African Americans who do it.Anyway for example,when I was in school there were 50 Ashleys.People need different names.

Good question! I don't know, but I have wondered that myself. Maybe they just dont like european names.

because their kids are special to them and they try to be connected with their background rather than naming their kids Johnathan or Mary, or any other boring names.

I don't think lot of them 'make up' names. Its just that white folks don't hear lot of 'black' names.
