I'm getting at the primordial nature of emotions and how our artificial living arrangements may not always be healthy for our natural emotions. That emotions are rooted in natural instincts and we must use our higher intelligence to discern which instincts are higher and which are lower.

Yes, of course. You have to act "professionally" in most corporations, which means a prescribed model of expressing emotions, such as no bursts of sudden anger, no sexual flirtations, etc. It's a pretty unnatural way for people to act most of the time, and most of the time employees live in fear in isolated cubicles.
