As one of your other answers indicated, the best definition of a humanist is by Ayn Rand: "the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

My definition of a liberal humanist: A humanist that thinks everyone else should be a humanist.

Well, what I know of Humanism, I only know from Ayn Rand, and that is a belief that Man is his own purpose. I think its summarized best by this quote:

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."
