the type of horse you own depend on:
your personality
how athletic you are
which dicipline you ride
and weather or not you show and what level of competition you ride at(local,state or national).
also some horses are better for certain things
example Standardbreds are bred for harness raceing so they make great driving horses
Quarter horses are bred for speed and make great barrel horses
and so on

My favourite breed of horse is the Quarter Horse/Appy they are so easy going and I just love them...I have one and he has been the best horse ever

a strong Quarter horse will do just about anything you want it to, but then there's a lot of "mutt" horses out there that are awesome too. Stay away from purebred Arabs as most of them are pretty dingy!

Tennessee Walker!! They love to go, but have a GREAT temperment, and hardly ever buck...plus they have good endurance. And if ridden with their naturaly gait you could go as fast as a trot with it being so smooth you could hold a coffee cup full of water and not spill any
