Most phones that are capable of receiving text messages can be text messaged from any computer with internet access and email. For a customer with verizon cell phone the phones email address would be the 10digitnumber@vtext.com ex 8885551212@vtext.com and a us cellular customer would be 10 digit phone number@email.uscc.net
Do a search for @email.uscc.net and one of the results should be a complete list of cellular companies

yes u can. its very easy but sometimes you cant get a message back meaning its a one-way thing. but it really depends on where you send it from and what theirs and your phone supports.

also if you know who their service provider is check their company website and you can usually send a one way txt from it. all you would need to know is their wireless number and the service provider.
