well, if i am super angry & i tell them that i am really upset & need to calm down before i talk about things (if the situation warrants that sort of response)

other times, when you can control yourself, you just have to take deep breaths & think before you speak. think about more than just your feelings, think about their reactions to what you are about to say.

if it is a major issue that i have some time to deal with, i try to write about it-- to myself... and destroy it when i am done. it helps me understand my throughts & feelings along with the situation. often times i find a good night sleep or nap does a world of good in dealing with certain situations. it allows time for my mind to calm down.

The best idea is not to. If you're angry, upset, whatever go chill out. Sit in your room, go for a walk or run or something. This gives you a chance to calm down and also to think about it. To think about the other persons point of view and to think about how you'll express yours.

If you say to that person, look, I don't think it's a good idea to talk right now because we're both/I'm too angry or I just need a little bit of space, if you give me 30 minutes can we talk then, or how bout we talk at 4 this arvo, I'm free then etc.

You can't. That's why you have to take a break, remove yourself from the situation, and cool down. Anger blocks the brain's ability to think with emotion, so all you can do is react emotionally.

yep. try to present your case in the most tactful manner with all honesty, and if it will be resolved the other must also do the same.

no matter how mad you get, don't raise your voice louder than you could bear to receive from them.

buddy that answered b4 me was correct. If you must flip, you must simply remove yourself to avoid the inevitable.

I was JUST lecturing my sister to stay calm when she's upset. When she rants and shouts she looks guilty even when she's not. Did she listen to me? No, she hung up on me!! ;o(
