The kids with the really big tummies are suffering from protein malnutrition i.e. kwashiorkor. this is characterised by a swollen belly which occurs becuase the low protein in blood is unable to prevent fluids from seeping into tissue spaces leading to oedema (water retention in certain areas)
The adults have really flat six packs because they are suffering from undernutrition and have muscle wasting.

This is so mostly in kids 3 to 6 years old. Most Africans are on 3 meals a day and apply this to these kids (good natural meals - unmodified, un processed other than the cooking). So the kids really fill up. African kids who eat throughout the day don't exhibit this phenomena.
The adults, well there lifestyle is exercise.

The big tummies are not a good thing. It is caused by a disease. I think it is called Porshack's or Porshecki's disease. The body does not get a certain mineral that is needed to dissolve and metabolize another mineral. So that mineral diffuses down into the belly, causing it to swell.

First it is not all kids. It's malnourished children. It is lack of sufficient protein in the diet. It causes fluid shifts to intracellular regions. Kwashiorkor syndrome.
A swollen stomach is indicative of kwashiorkor, malnutrition caused by protein deficiency.
Look it up in wikipedia, it has an accurate photo.

Starvation and dehydration cause the relocation of fluids in the body. Also, just like how Anorexics acquire larger stomachs, the first part of your body to be sacrificed is the muscles that hold in your guts.
