Whether or not she escaped is not so interesting to me. What is more interesting is the prologue. Was that society a successor state to "Middle Gilead"? It looks like there was still some male chauvinism because of the "underground 'frail' road" joke. And what was the deal with the Native American sounding name?

Other classic dystopian books: This Perfect Day, Anthem, We, 1984, Brave New World...

It is a wonderful, if dark, tale of dystopia, the subjugation of women, and bad sex. And, the ending is ambiguous; she may have been caught, or she may have been smuggled out along the road.

If she was caught, however, when did she make the recordings which comprise her tale?

Great book!

Read the end of the book and find out. It's a good book, if a little strange.

that is one of my favorite books i have ever read. it gave me nightmeres. read all of it.
