If I stand next to a burning fire for a long period of time, can I get a tan??

No. Tans are caused by solar rays. Melanocytes in your skin produce more pigment as a defense mechanism.

I would say not as the wavelength of the heat isn't the one to tan you. It's the UV (Ultra Violet) part of the spectrum that your body reacts to.

Yes you would . If you watch the cooks you can see their faces and hands are tanned and also the vapour changes the texture of their skin.
