When I got divorced 10 yrs ago I kept his name because of the kids. Easier at school etc. I don't need that name anymore, they are almost out of school.
My plan is this, I already called cable, told them I'm divorced and they changed my name to my maiden name. I figure I'll change another utility or something to get mail with my old name on it.
Then I go to DMV with my mail and original birth certificate and get a new license. Then off to Social Security. And bingo, it's done.
I'm not changing it for fraudulent purposes. I'ts just a better name, and it's mine. My kids want me to do it. They like my old name better too.
So, what do you think? Will it work?

Go to your local courthouse and have your name changed legally. It is a simple and cheap process and shouldn't be much trouble. Just changing the names on your bills, etc. will cause trouble for you in the long run when someone realizes or thinks you are operating under two different names. Better just to take care of it properly!

Best go through the legal process, that is simple and cheap. Go to the court clerk, get the paperwork, fill it out, file it, you will get a hearing in front of a judge, tell him your reason (yours is fine), he will issue a court order changing your name. Use the court order with Driver license, SS and anybody else concerned.. Then there can be no question.

You need to go to court and legally change your name. Simply changing bills won't work. And the government cannot change driver's liscences or social security until this court ordered name change is completed. This process is easy, though, so don't worry about it!
