The United States is helping Iraq rebuilding it etc.But what about the civil wars in Africa that have left orphans, doesnt the American Govt think it should help the starving people in Africa torn apart by Aids and War and help to cease the suffering of these people?Or is it since most African Nations are not Oil rich no one cares. For example in the 1980s there was apartheid in South Africa.America didnt do a thing but ,America is always eager to help Oil rich nations.Does this mean that black lives are worthless.Or is it that the past Presidents were racist.

As much as I love the US, we are a short sighted country and see policy in terms of 4 and 8 years. By not helping Africa, we are paving the way for Islamic Fundamentalists to come in and create another Afghanistan, which is already happening in Somalia. We don't do things "JUST FOR OIL". We do things that benefit us NOW.

However, I also pin the blame on Africa itself. Africa is full of corrupt governments pilfer the aid meant for its people and continuously fight for control. Much of Africa is not stable and no amount of money or aid will help these countries that can't get their act together and have some semblance of order.

Remember "Blackhawk Down"? Under Clinton, we tried to help Somalia under the auspices of the UN but were overrun and driven out by Somali mobs and warlords. We could have laid waste to the entire country but instead left the country.

Also, aid is coming to Africa, albeit from private charities like the Bill Gates foundation and Bono from U2 consistantly getting donations. Aid that came in the 80s saw it's way into the hands of corrupt government officials and did nothing to help the Africans. To be honest, the world isn't to blame for the majority of Africas problems. It's the African leaders that are.

Why should the U.S. help Africa? Nations are in competition with each other, thats the whole point of having a nation, otherwise why even have boundries? It is hypocritical if we are helping non black nations purely based on race, but we probably shouldnt be helping anyone, I dont really know that actual factuals. Stop the idealism, there is a certain amount of being a hard a** in running a nation. It has always, always, always, do I have to say it again, always been that way, from Genghis Khan to you name it. Even in democracies.

they haven't ignored it they are knee deep in it. Africa is divided up. The Dutch control the south and the diamond mines, the US the mid section and the oil fields of Nigeria, the English controls the east. They maintain control by creating discord on the continent of Africa. Just like Iraq while CNN is reporting on the civil war the US looting the oil fields.

No - it means two things:

1. There was no economic benefit to be derived from helping African nations.

2. In the case of the current administration - there's NO OIL and that's what Bush is all about.

One of these days, the emerging African nations are going to come back and bite this country in the butt and there won't be a thing we can do about it. We had our chance and blew it.

Personally, I'd rather see my tax dollars helping to solve the problems in Africa - such as the AIDS crisis that exists there - than in a meaningless war with a bunch of Arabs who don't give a hoot in hell about us and wish we'd go home.

"and I believe they have the highest population of homosexuals amongst minority groups" Tell me good sir why that is such a bad thing? i may be a straight white boy but i know that there ain't nothing wrong with gay people. To answer you original question yes i do feel sorry for the disadvantaged black or white. But trying to label the whole race as hopeless and without a voice apart from "rappers" is a tad bit silly don't you think?

I was unaware that our world was so unable to manage any part of its own political strife without US intervention.

Hmmm... If my memory serves me correct, the citizens in the US have probably given more money to African causes in the last 5 years than the rest of the world has given in 20. And the US has been doing it for at least 20 years.

There is a trend of thought that goes, if you leave the Africans to decimate themselves through war and disease, then the continent becomes free to exploit.

Remember, Africa is rife with natural resources and is virtually untapped. Saharan Africa, boast more untapped oil than all of the middle east put together. It hasn't even been drilled except for Northern Nigeria.

It's not just the USA. I don't see the Europeans, Japan, HK and other rich countries running to Africa to help. It all depends of their foreign policies. But my take is if there is nothing to gain from the needy country then why should they go there. Very selfish.

Because our current administration along with its predecessors does not help just anyone, they have to have oil or a lot of money and importance to the U.S. Unfortunately for the Africans they do not meet any of the above criteria so the U.S. will not help them.
