I would choose the potato chips, because the microwave wouldn't be of any use without the capability to generate electricity. Potato chips last for weeks and are high in carbohydrates and sodium, if you could find sources for protein, minerals, vitamins, and fiber on the island, then you would definitely be able to last a bit longer than simply with an unusable microwave.

Well, since microwave is an option, I assume this desert island has electricity. If that's the case I would take the microwave and wait for the meter reading guy to come along and hitch a ride home! happy holidays, bah humbug
