My four and a half month old used to sleep through the night. Over a month ago she decided she would wake every six hours and the last few days she wakes every four. She isn't hungry, she could care less about being wet. She has a had a little separation anxiety, but I think the main casue is a combination of teething and that she is doing some major breakthroughs with play. Four months is such an exciting month. They are starting to roll over, my daughter just recently started sitting up on her own. She is doing all sorts of sounds like raspberries. They want to be doing things.
If its every hour it may be teeth setting in though. I would try giving him "orajel night time" and see if that helps. It won't last. He'll get back to sleeping especially when he gets a little more active. I wouldn't worry about him being hungry. I don't think he could possibly be hungry every hour. I've talked to alot of parents who have said that around four or five months their child had teething issues and was waking up alot. Another mom said that her babe had sep. anxiety. Just go in and reassure him. I wouldn't pick him up though becasue you do want to encourage him to go back to sleep on his own.

Hungry, cold, wet, lonely...there are many reasons a baby wakes up frequently. Especally at that age, it is totally and comepletely normal. Don't worry; he will eventually start sleeping longer. My son is 20 mo and has been sleeping 9-12 hours at night (most nights) since about 17 mo. He also takes 2-3 hour naps. I didn't do anything to try to make him sleep for long periods of time; he just did this on his own. :)

My daughter is 8 a million/2 mo previous. on social gathering she will be able to wake round 5:30. We supply her a small bottle (3 oz.) then lay her decrease backtrack and she or he continuously has lengthy gone decrease back to sleep. lately she hasn't been waking up for the small bottle in spite of the undeniable fact that yet at the same time as she did, she'd sleep for yet another hour or 2 after.

That is pretty often for a child to wake up but if he has changed sleeping habits he may be trying to adjust. Babies go through many changes when it comes to sleeping the best of the sleeping habits is when they come home from the hospital then a few week later they don't want to sleep.

Having had 3 myself, I always found it was 1. cutting teeth which is painful or, 2. developing ear infection, which can be directly related to teething. The ear canal is parallel along the jaw line and eventually elongates as the child matures, thereby allowing drainage of fluids in the ear canal.
Don't know if there are any other secondary symptoms other than the one you gave.

Is he satisfied with his feed? This could be a reason why he wakes up. Make sure he is dry. By the time he reaches six months, he would sleep all night might be a phase.

hahaha i'm guessing...first baby?? hehe that's ok, it's normal, he will grow out of it, eventually. As long as he is healthy and happy otherwise, u just have to work through it. He's old enough to play with and keep awake a few minutes longer, therefore resulting in a little longer sleep. good luck!! One day u will laugh lol

Mine did it, too, at that age. I didn't know what to think! Then I put an small overstuffed pillow next to him, he cuddled to it and fell asleep! Since then I have had no problems, as long as the pillow is there!

You can try tying one of your cotton t-shirts in a big knot and putting it so that it touches his face. Your smell will calm him down, he will think you're next to him and he will sleep quietly!

Are you breastfeeding him? I did my son and he never seemed to get enough to eat...so I had to supplement.
Also..when he wakes up..dont turn on any lights in the house...he will begin to realize ... hey I should be asleep...everyone else is...did that with both my kids....they finally got on a routine schedule...ours : )
