This is NOT a Christian nation, Get your facts straight. This country was co founded by Deists.
And it was based on Ancient Greek philosophy. If you don't believe me, take a long look at the White House.

Marriage is PRE-CHRISTIAN.

There ARE NONE.

Marriage laws don't exist to uphold the ideals which opponents want the institution to reflect so the fact that it might be "violated", in THEIR eyes, is of no consequence when considering the legalization of same sex marriage.

Remember: there is no clause that requires people to be capable of procreation in order to marry. There is no written or unspoken requirement compelling each couple to enter into the contract with only the intentions that are considered "pure" or "proper". There is no small print at the bottom of the actual contract which states that every person involved in the union must behave, believe or live in any certain way.

The majority may feel that the institution SHOULD represent one certain concept (i.e. that it exists strictly for making families) or set of values (i.e. according to the Christian Bible) but marriage law and contracts have never translated that desire into any sort of obligation. Furthermore, to suggest that same sex marriage should be blocked because of "Christian values" would be to suggest that we manipulate the law in a way that it was NEVER meant to be. Justice O'Connor said it best (I paraphrase, but this was the jist of it): the United States is not in the business of legislating based on morality alone.

A man and a woman can and will get married for any reasons, good or bad, or NO reasons, because they HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY. Any same sex couple deserves THE SAME OPPORTUNITY.

And you're right, homosexuality is not a perversion or illness, etc. Virtually all of the major psychological, sociological and medical authorities on the matter have been telling us for the better part of 4 decades and in no uncertain terms that homosexuality is a normal, natural, healthy sexual orientation that doesn't hinder ones ability to function from day to day and isn't a mental disorder.

1. This country is based on equality and there is no law that states say that a man and man or woman and woman can not have a union, but that the government does not recognize it as a marriage. Gays could and do get "married" all the live long day, and no one would say a thing because it is there right.
2. This is a Christian Country! It's is only liberal commies who want everyone to believe that majority of the country no longer believes in God. Oh by the way the whole idea behind the genious seperation of church and state was taken from a letter written between two very substantial members of government that helped found this great nation. No where in all official government works does it promote the seperation. But even on top of that in the letter it was brought up to acknowledge that the state should have no saying in church matters, not the other way around.
3. There is no such thing as gay marriage. Marriage by deffinition is the union of a man and woman. There is however gay unions. If people really wanted to push the rights of gays to have a union similar to that of a marriage then they should call it something entirely new. That one word, marriage is meant for one meaning and there would be a lot fewer people standing against the equality of the rights if they would just replace the word.

Here is a non-religious answer. I would say purely that homosexuality is biologically abnormal. Same sex partnerships cannot procreate and carry on the species. Generally speaking this goes against the law of nature. I also do not buy into the argument that this occurs naturally when overpopulation occurs. As generally disease and sickness solves that problem in nature. Unfortunately humans have gotten rid of much of that.

Also I would like to address your reason #2. This country was founded on Christian philosophy and much of the legal system is based on this. Also in the Constitution there is no mention of separation of Church and State. The only mention that they should be separated was in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. The concept of separation is to keep the government from being run by any religious leader. Not just Christians, but any. A good example of why would be taking a look at the Middle Eastern countries of even today. Or past European countries where the Catholic church dominated the government.

Anglican leaders from all over the world have evidently mentioned their competition to the "victimisation or diminishment" of gays and lesbians, announcing demonising and persecuting them used to be "thoroughly towards Christian charity and fundamental concepts of pastoral care". "We say that nobody will have to must reside in worry considering of the bigotry of others." The mormons poured thousands into forcing by way of prop eight in CA: to prohibit homosexual marriage. In August 2010 the court docket held that to be unconstitutional. On 15 June 2011 the San Francisco court docket upheld that choice considering it violates the constitutional rights of residents. On 7 February 2012 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck the California legislation once more discovering that the California state charter banning identical-intercourse marriage violated concepts of due method and same safeguard beneath the legislation. The court docket observed that the ban violates equality legislation to goal a minority institution and withdraw a correct that it possessed, with out a reliable rationale for doing so. Proposition eight serves no motive, and has no end result, as opposed to to diminish the popularity and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California. The charter effortlessly does no longer enable for legislation of this form. It is now looking ahead to the Supreme Court verdict which is anticipated to uphold the early court docket choice. If that occurs then homosexual marriage will come to be authorized in all places and so we can be marriage and no longer civil partnership! France has simply legalised homosexual marriage and Spain has began legislating to take action! In the UK The intolerance, bigotry and homophobia from Christians led to it being classed as a hate crime with extreme sentences. It has ended in the federal government framing laws which if enacted will substitute "Civil Partnership" with complete marriage. Spain has simply legalised homosexual marriage and France has began legislating to take action! The loving god works in mysterious approaches.

I guess I am not totally against gay marriage. I'm not sure why the government feels it is any of its business who people marry. If two people choose to spend their lives together (male/female, male/male, etc) than I don't see the argument against it legally. I guess I would be interested to see how others answer this question. Bravo, great question.

Your facts are correct. I oppose it for one reason only: it complicates the language. I would like to reserve that particular term for a heterosexual relationship, because that is what people assume that it means. I support civil unions to establish the same sort of rights and responsibilities that exist in a heterosexual marriage.
