Do they even have a relationship? Sure, Bush visited us, but so what? He don't need us. He don't fear us. We're just another country to him.

To the USA and the corporations that run it, it's all about money all the time. The Bush crime family has been doing business with the bin Ladens for decades - do you think they really give a s**t about catching their terrorist friends?
Communists are wimps compared with what these Islamofascists are capable of, as we have already seen. I'm starting to think the neocons got their script out of 1984; they would let the Iraq war go on forever if it suited them and made money for their cronies, which is exactly what is happening over there right now. Once that's no longer possible the war will end, unless the Democrats grow some cojones real fast and end it sooner.
Conservatives in every society are the "I got mine so screw you" crowd. They don't want anything to change and they will kill anyone who reveals this to too many people.

VN is no longer a threat to US. She's opening her doors offering good markets for all business. So she's not really a communist country anymore. There are numerous signs and features of Capitalism in VN, especially after the participation in the World Trade Organization.

As long as they aren't hellbent on destroying our way of life - as during the cold war - a normal trade relationship is the best way to ensure no hostilities will take place again between our two nations. And considering the situation with North Korea right now - being on good terms with a former enemy like Vietnam - might help to convince NK's leaders to lay down their weapons and nuclear ambitions, and seek a similar relationship.

We can get rid of our communist factions, suppota completely free market in the United States, and sell publishing material for the communist political propoganda. Only in a free market society will we successfully be able to maintain a nonaggressive normal relationship with any other society.

Depends on who's in charge of the US government, I suppose.

And by the way, Alcoa had dealings with the Nazis even after the start of WWII. So did Prescott Bush [GW's grandfather, GHW's dad (Brown Brothers, Harriman & Union Bank)]
It may not be exactly normal, but they do have a US Chamber of Commerce in downtown Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

Because water seeks it's own level.... you just THINK you are living in a "democracy". The same communist cockroaches in this country that caused us to loose the Viet war are now expanding trade as they had originally planned...

Actually yes. As long as the politicians dont try to override these countries, diplomacy can be maintained.
Its the politicians that may start bull with these countries. and that is what breaks the peace

Communism is no longer a threat to the stability of our economy. The new threat to our economy is terrorist wielding nuclear bombs.
