I think it's a fine idea. It's not only generous, but it allows her to pick what she wants. If you're worried, why not go with her when she redeems it? Make a day out of it. Go eat a nice lunch together, walk around, & then pick out something pretty at Tiffany's. It's not what the gift is, it's the intent. If you half-heartedly pick out a $5,000 gift, it'll seem cheap. If you give her a $10 gift card & make a special day out of the redemption, then that gift is worth it's weight in gold.

no. buy her a gift, it shows that you put a little more thought into it and it's more personal... be sure to get a gift receipt... i only suggest gift cards when you have to get multiple people gifts or if the person receiving the gift lives in another state... unless shipping is free
