Reproductive urges. Humans are animals, just like anything else. Its just in our genes. Men are biologically wired to have (or try to have) sex with as many women as possible. Its all about passing the genes on. If a man passes on his genes, then his dna is more likely to survive to the next generation. Women are wired to be picky about who they have sex with- after all, women are the ones who get stuck being pregnant and caring for an infant. So men want to have sex, and try to. (I'm not trying to offend anyone, its just a fact, biologically.) Women who are more likely to have sex are the ones who become popular because a guy has a better chance of passing his dna on. Other women see this and imitate the behaviour so they can be popular too. (sad, isn't it?)
On top of that, society places a huge emphasis on sex. Its in movies, music, and even in clothing design(ever see a girl walking around in sweatpants that say 'spank it!' across the bum?) Alot of that goes back to the whole passing-on-the-genes thing. On top of that, sex is taboo, therefore, desiarable. Children are raised (especially today with absitance only sex ed) being told sex is BAD, and not to do it. Naturally, it just makes them curious. Little boys look for tittie magazines and little girls talk to their friends about it. People have sex because their curious about it.
Finally, sex is seen as a commitment thing in a relationship. If a couple is commited, its seen as a given that their having sex. Any relationship counselor or psychologist will tell you- a good relationship has three components. Physical love (kissing, cuddling, holding hands, sex, ect.), passionate love ( infatuation, the 'honeymood peroid', that heart pounding rush you get with a person) and compassionate love (being best friends on top of it all). Without one of those three components, a relationship is doomed to fail. I'm NOT saying that you have to have sex to stay in a relationship- psychologically, holding hands and kissing are just as good.
Anyway, thats why people think its important to have sex.

Because it is a way to release stress, and a way to make yourself and someone else feel good. Also, if it is between people that love eachother then it is a way to show love. There are also many reasons why sex is not so important, but it is your reasons to why it is inportant or not, dont listen to what people have to say about it, only go by what you think.

Because it's fun and it is our instinct to reproduce. Guys can't help being horny a lot and checking out girls etc. it's part of being the animals that we are. It is also an important part of a relationship usually, it gives you a certain closeness that you just can't get any other way.
