Because the rich kids can buy their way out of military service. At least that was how it was when we still had the draft now they just avoid it by not volunteering for it

1. The arm forces is all volunteer.
2. The percentage of minorities in the military is close to what it is in the general population.
3. The military does not want malcontents and idiots it is very technical now they need people that can shoot more than a rifle.

The poor aften take most of the burdens in life, not just in war, because they have fewer better choices to make. However, I don't think minorities ALWAYS bear this burden: for example, just how many black men lost their lives during World War I?

War on Terror did put burden on poor/middle class in many ways really. Cut backs on local crime/gang preventive programs, police...etc caused sky rocketing of violent crimes that really effect poor people mostly at the expense of security for rich and powerful from foreign threats that may or may not materialize. So its not just army recruits that suffer. Statistics show dramatic increase in deaths from violent crimes is more than enough to off set security increase against terrorism.

The poor and middle class minorities have plenty of opportunities to go to college and get jobs. Also, look at who has died overseas (not taking away from any of our brave soldiers)...
