Not at all. I have familiy there and I visit about every 2 years. They acutually like Americans, although they are not a fan of Bush. (Clinton is like a rock star down there)
All vietnam ever wanted was vietnam for the vietnamese. The Chinese ruled them for a thousand years. Then the French came and colonised them, Laos and Cambodia and essentially made them indentured servants. WWII came about and the Japanese ruled over them. Then the French again and when the US came in, all they wanted was to be independent and free. The vietnamese don't like the Russians. They call them, "Americans with no money".
Ho Chi Minh actually liked America. He was a baker in NYC. He actually came to the US government for help and we did not take him seriously. The Soviets did however and we had the nerve to be upset with him for that when we refused him help. The vietnamese wanted independence from foreign rule which is what they got. I know both the Vietnamese and Americans will benefit from their growing friendship.

No - the population there has no lingering memory, on the whole, of the Vietnam war. The average Vietnamese was not born when the war was being fought. The Vietnamese are becoming a valuable trading partner, a popular tourist destination and a source for cheap labor and raw materials.

There is no South Vietnam for us to have troops in, and there is no North Vietnam who's sending shells into the south.
There is only one Vietnam, and we are on such good terms Bush was there a few weeks ago, and American companies are doing business with Vietnam.
Since the purpose of the Vietnam war was to keep it availible for business, WE WON!!!!

The question is the U.S. still hostile toward a nation that murdered and maimed so many of our fine young men. In the hands of a Democratic regime.

THE GOVERNMENT OF VIETNAM IS COMMUNIST IN ITS OUTLOOK. BUT EVEN IT CANNOT STAY AWAY FROM THE MARCH OF TIME. THUS WITH US COMPANIES LINING UP FOR INVESTING IN VIETNAM , I BELIEVE THAT SAVE IDEOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES , THE STATE OF VIETNAM IS NOT TRULY HOSTILE ANYMORE TO THE U.S .

No, not really. Remember they were invaded by the French and then the Japanese before the US arrived, and then again by China after the US left. If they were bitter about their history, that would be a lot of bitterness.

Not for the most part. Go to couchsurfing.com and you'll find many Americans living there and having the times of their lives. They will even let you crash at their house if you are not an a_ _hole.
