Not if I wanted to continue teaching.

Hah! Absolutely Not! I would not even consider going to school the next day. As prevalent an idea this is, this is totally the wrong way to go about handling a situation! You can reach your students in better ways besides using physical force, and not to mention the physical force his parents would probably force upon you. The law is defined as any form of corporal punishment, which has terms thereof, is not sanctioned and is prohibited. Ask any educator, whether young or old, if the corporal punishment system should still be in use today? I believe that your answer will ultimately be "yes"! The problem that has gone wrong with our United States school system is that it has phased out authority and discipline. This is a process that is irreversible. "NO" you can not act in such a manner. Even though we tend to let that idea creep up into our head sometimes, we must remember what we are here for and how we can make a difference through knowledge and brain power, rather than through neurotic impulse and physical abuse which sadly plagues the homelives of so many children.

Here in the U.S., doing that would be illegal and would probably get you fired! But I'm sure there are plenty of teachers who feel there are kids deserving of a good spanking.

But today, if a teacher were to do this, he or she would get it from all sides, the parents of the child who was spanked, and school administration officials.

And even if you didn't pull down the pants, but rather just spanked the child with the pants on, it wouldn't change anything right now. Just cannot do it here in America!

But it does raise the most important issue teachers face today, and that's how to discipline kids. Today, we've lost control in the classroom and it's the kids running things rather than the teachers. We've become so over-protective of our kids and sue-happy that teachers are often afraid to discipline a kid.

Kids today in general lack manners, don't take things very seriously, are disrespectful towards elders, and are even violent in some cases. I'm not saying we need corporal punishment (the spanking of kids), but rather school officials and parents who won't tolerate this inappropriate behavior from the kids. Kids need to be taught by everyone that this sort of misbehavior has consequences.

In my opinion, we should go back to the way things were before when teachers were in charge. And parents took a more active role in their child's learning and behavior. Today, schools are run more like businesses rather than houses of education. And parents are just too busy and tired to deal with it, and sometimes behave just as bad as the kids themselves. We're less "cultured" today than ever before, and it's a real shame!

Never, Ever. That is humiliating, shaming and a form of discipline that even a parent should not use, much less a stranger, a teacher. Besides I would never want to touch my students rear ends. Yuck.

NO! That is totally illegal. They are not allowed to hit a student in any way. Not only that but to pull down his pants would be another crimnal offense on top of it. I really hope this isnt a serious question.

Not unless the teacher is totally insane! That would be easy grounds to lose your job, get sued, and to be thrown into jail for an extended period of time! Anyone smart enough to become a teacher should know that one!

That would work in Vietnam...but here, people just love to make lawsuits. No wonder lawyers are so rich. Don't you watch the news? People are suing left and right for any reason at all, regardless of how small it is.

No.
Just give writing punishment as home-work.
So he can practice his writing and remember not to do it again in class.
Caning should be done by principal in his office.
Depend on how many stripes the student or pupil want for making a monkey out of themselves in planet of apes.
Lesson they will never forget until they hit the job streets in planet of apes.
