Either stuck brakes or a bad bearing. The excessive heat makes it more likely that it's your brakes.
Pull your tire off and try to get the drum off. If it's stuck, you may have to back off the adjuster. Check to make sure that you can push the two pads together. If you can't move them by hand your wheel cylinder is toast.

Sounds like the bearings in the hub are worn out or the rear
brakes are not disengaging from the rotors or the drums.
Have it looked at as soon as possible as not to cause any
damage or more damage. Leaving the parking brake on
while driving can make a smell from the excessive friction.

98 Blazer with drum brakes on the rear? Sounds to me like the rear axle seal is blown. This allows diff fluid to get on the brake shoes and drums. You'll need to replace the axle seal and redo the brake too .Sorry but once oil get on them they're toast. Also check that your e brake cables are free. Blazer are bad for cable freezing up too.

is that this a 2002 or 2008 ? If it somewhat is an 2002 learn the rear brakes that there no locked up or that there's no axle grease leaking (considered inspection) and burning off on the rotor. If it an 2008 positioned across it to the dealership. interior the experience that your nonetheless uncertain take it to somebody rapidly.

too much of brake oil sedimented out side the drum or brake linings tight. Even if you use the brake too much like when you are driving down hill also gives out too much of heat and smell.

well is it rear drum breaks or disk ... if its drum its most likely the hydraulic leaking brake fluid and if it is the the heat would be because the brake is stuck on but if its disk the the caliper is prob seized either case bring it in again (might still be under warranty?) brakes are important but 80%of your breaking power is in the front.

You didn't say how many miles on it.. sounds like a wheel bearing..don't go too long and ruin the axle too.
