i like this question.
Some say God did it. Some say there was a big bang.
i say it was both. The odds are terribly stacked against us being here still, so there must be some amazing force in the universe keeping it all together in spite of us. This is one of the many jobs i think God is doing.
Now, who's to say God didn't make the universe by causing a big bang? We can't deny scientific, logically founded measurements and observations, can we? So if the universe is expanding, which we have proved, and if there is one point from which (it seems) everything is expanding, then why could it NOT be that God stuck his finger someplace so to speak, and that was the birth of the universe?!?
it does say in scripture that God created the heavens and the earth and ..., but it never specifies how! this is what i believe anyway.

what if it never did begin? don't consume your mind with the idea that there was a beginning and will be an end. no one was there and all the evidence we have points to similar ideas but understand also that matter and energy may never have been created, merely reorganized in a fluctuation (many big bangs) that has been happening over and over again forever. yes, even as long as some people say god has existed... i mean forever. no beginning, no end. this universe appears to be expanding (hence the idea that it used to all be close together and exploded) but it also appears to be slowing down which implies that it may stop some day and go backward. imagine in 90 billion years when people see that the universe is retracting what theories of creation they may come up with...

Scientists say that space, time and matter originated 13.7 billion years ago in a tremendous explosion called the Big Bang. Observations of the cosmic microwave background by a co-author of the recent Spitzer studies, Dr. John Mather of Goddard, and his science team strongly support this theory. Mather is a co-winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize for Physics for this work. Another few hundred million years or so would pass before the first stars would form, ending the so-called dark age of the universe.

Nothing exploded into everything because of nothing causing everything and then we evolved from a rock and there are infinite other universes that can't have life and its chance that we have perfect conditions for life and now I'll get back to my sin....
God told it to. Everything has to have a cause. There is nothing uncaused(cept God). Why did the big bang explode? What caused that to happen? And that? And that? etc...
Due to conservation of matter, energy, and momentum, the big bang does not make sense.
Here's my theory. God created Adam on the 6th day right? If you saw Adam when he was one day old, how old would he look? Would he be a baby, or would he be a man (20-30) fully developed and ready to go?
Now, with this logic lets say God created the Earth. He created it fully formed and put all the good stuff on it we see now. If we looked ( or studied, tested, etc) at it how old would it look? It would be a fully mature Earth, looking billions of years old, yet fully formed and ready to go, yet only a few days old...

actually the best theory that is accepted is the big bang theory. well if you are religious, you can say God created the universe. But scientifically the big bang is supported by some evidences and one of this is the cosmic background radiation. you can find this on the web

and in ( our snow globe arrogant human time ) is 14 billion years.
Im content not knowing...... people that assume they know are idiots........

The Bible says that God created the heavens and the Earth, etc. It doesn't say HOW he did it. My personal belief: He's the one behind the Big Bang. One push (as a perfect God would do) and no meddling with it after.

There are many theories and beliefs. But until we have better technology or Revelation we will have to continue searching for the answer.
