I use my computer about 4-5 times a day, half an hour each. Is it better to leave it on all day or should I turn it on and off ? Thanks

You should leave your computer on if you are using it that often. It is harder for it to turn on and off rather than to just stay on. It is good to shut it down on occasion to clear the RAM and for updates to take affect, but leave it on during the day. There is a debate about leaving it on over night, but it doesn't realy matter either way, expecialy for a desk top.

Constantly heating and cooling the chip housings over short periods of time can damage them. Leave your computer on. If you don't need to use it for a while, switch the screen off (that uses the most juice). Most modern PCs will go into some kind of low power hibernate or sleep mode anyway when not used for a while. Your computer certainly doesn't need to "rest".

I say go away them on, I in effortless words turn my computers off if there's a hurricane or a blackout. There are 2 traces of idea right here about this very idea. One says turn the computer off and keep potential, keep positioned on on the not undemanding force and prolong the computer lifestyles customarily. the different it is what i believe after having carried out electronics is that electrical energy generates warmth and turning it off creates a quiet down result. So each and every time you turn the computer on you get this rush of potential by skill of each and everything which heats up all of your circuitry. i believe that over a era of time it is going to damage some thing, imagine a a lot less severe version of sticking a warm glass into ice water, or that a mild bulb will very last more if its left on then if its consistently grew to develop into on and rancid. you merely use a lot less potential by technique of turning it off.

I think you should leave it on.

It's a fact that the hard drive is strained when it spins it up and back down (turns on and off, etc.). Logically it should also apply to your other PC components; turning them on and off 4-5 times a day would give them a pretty nice workout that could shorten their operation life.

Turn it on in the morning, and turn it off at night.

If you're worried about that extra time where the PC's not doing anything, set it to defragmenting the hard drive or folding for Folding@Home, which is a project run by Stanford University that helps search for a cure for to cancer.

I think u should leave it on because there is not point of having to keep turning it on all the time. Also i keep my computer on all day and nothing happens.

I ususally leave my desktop on 24/7 and it has been a year now. I have done this with previous systems as well. It can take a toll on the mother board and other components turning it on and off constantly.

Shutting it off will save power. It's a personal choice. As long as you restart it a few times a week it won't make a difference for the computer.

i prefer leaving mine on,
it used to be a myth that turning on and off was bad beacause of heat fluctuations,,,,that is not true
if you are concerned about wasting electricity then have your monitor and hard drive turn off by setting it ....go to...start>control panel>power options
