I concur with the other answerer who said yes if it is base 11.
in base eleven, the 1 of the seventeen reperesents 11.
So by adding 7 in the ones place,
18 base 10
is equal to 17 base 11.
If you are not familiar with number bases, his answer may not have made sense, however, computers are binary machines using the base 2 number system. This number system is difficult for humans but easily translated to base 8(octal) or base(16) Hexadecimal. These are more common number systems, and you can easily find information about them by searching for these terms on the net.
by the way 18 in base 16 is 12.

Answer: NO. The answer is 18. However, see below.
Check under the hood: Is your calculator battery low? Are all of the segments of the LED lighting up correctly and not broken in your calculator display? If calculator broken an 8 could look like a 7.
Further thought: Not possible in this universe. In another universe it could happen, if fundamental constants were altered by God.

If it's 3x(6)=17
18x = 17, x=17/18
Or if you've fallen down the rabbit hole it works too.
