Maybe he just means that knowing his co-workers, you probably won't be comfortable around them. They might not be the friendliest bunch. Or he thinks that he won't be able to be himself and have fun if you are around. Doesn't mean that he is doing anything behind your back. He might just want to be with the guys having fun and not have to spend 2 hours trying make you feel at ease. Why would you get into it with the ex? She is in the past and hopefully they have both moved on. There is no reason for you to ever feel threatened by the ex. If you are, you should discuss with your husband whatever makes you uncomfortable. Establish clear limits, and expectations.

I would certainly want to know why my presence is not
required. Are you sure it's his ex-wife he's worried about
or might there be another reason which you might hear gossip
indirectly. I think you are making excuses for him and you sound
like a smart lady and know exactly why he didn't want you there.
I wouldn't bring the subject up now and ruin the holidays for you
and your family, but certainly would get to the bottom of this.

Its not up to him to judge how comfy you would feel at the party.
Put on your party dress, your dancing shoes & enjoy the Christmas party. No more negative thoughts (about his ex), no more doubts of any kind.
Merry Cristmas. Have fun.

Sounds like a lame excuse to me for just not wanting to be by your man's side.

You do have a right to know what he meant by that. Just casually ask what was there that would have made you uncomfortable.
