I have tried difusers, and plug ins, and they don't work. My house smells stale all the time...

I make a simmering potpourri that I simmer while I'm home and just leave on the cold stove (even cold it smells good) when I'm gone. Simmering, it fills the house and when left cold, you can still smell it when you come home.

Fill a small pan with water
Add:
2 Tbs of cinnamon
2 Tbs of powdered cloves
2 Tbs of nutmeg
2 Tbs of vanilla extract
Pine cones are good in it if you have them
Several slices of whole orange, the juice squeezed into the mixture
Add water as needed so it doesn't dry up.

I know you said plug ins don't work, but I have a Febreeze fan plug in air filter and it works beautifully. Also, the liquid difusers available at Pier One work great.

get an air purifier machine. worked for me.

I couldn't reply to your email because you have not verified your email address. But to answer your question, YES it will help remove pet smells. Especially if you get a good machine with a HEPA filter. I burn candles alot in my home. Get a good strongly scented one and the nice smell will linger even when you are not burning the candle. If you have carpet try using the no vacuum (spray kind instead of powder) carpet fresh. It works pretty well. I try to steam clean my carpets in my house at least 3 times a year also.
Good Luck. Hope this helps. :) Merry Christmas !

try potpourri. its dried wood shavings colored and dipped in scented oil. keep it in your living room. it is also a nice piece of decoration. you can match the potpourri with scented candles of the same fragrance. you don't even have to light the candle because if its a good quality kind the smell will be noticeable. when you are home air your house out. open windows, pull up the blinds and open the curtains. it could also be mildew from moisture forming on your sofa upholstery, your carpet, rugs, and curtains. get a steamer like the one they use in clothing shops to steam fabrics in your house.

Essential oils in a burner, just put plenty of water in the top and add a few drops of essential oil (where you can buy everywhere these days) and put a tea light inside. Try blending oils, rosemary and lavendar are nice or you can buy pre-blended. My mum lives in the country with lots of smells from outside coming in and she uses an oil burner at each end of the house and it makes it fresh not overpowering.

I have heavily scented candles in my home that are scented with cinnamon oil. I use rosehips in a pan to line the candle and they have also been infused with oil, either cinnamon, or mulberry. The smell is delicious and lasts for many months. I decoarate the primitive country style, so I shop in stores and antique shops that cater to this style. If you go to craft stores, you can pick up these heavily scented candles. You don't even have to burn them for them to diffuse in the house!

You might want to leave your window just a tiny crack open, if you can; or as soon as you come home open it wide to let fresh air in and light votives from Yankee candles and tea lights, before you go out, blow them out and spray febreeze on the furnitures, that should help.

Our teachers at school are using candle warmers. Candles last last a long time and no open flame.
