Most men like to be able to provide and if they can't it hurts their pride. I'm not saying whether or not a girl should offer help though.... that depends entirely on the situation. It's always a nice to help somebody who is going through a rough time, however you don't want to be a doormat for somebody who doesn't want to take any responsibilty for themselves. Like I said.... it depends on the situation.
When my wife and I were in college and dating, she helped me out several times by buying my school books (which before the days of half.com, books for 1 semester could cost over $500.00). However, she knew my character. Now, she is finishing school and I am pretty much the sole provider.

uh... no. It's hurts your pride to lay down on the floor and "help" any man who isn't your decrepit old father or something. If he hyasn't been there for you like that fa-git-it. I dated a guy once who was always digging for gold in my pockets with some stupid *** sob stories, they will just keep taking and taking and never get themselves out of the kind of trouble that has girls wanting to spot him a20 or 20,000
