I have great success with boric acid powder. This is sold as a roach powder in the 99 cent store or an insect powder in a hardware store or nursery; it works on fleas too. You have to look at the ingredients to see what is in it. It is not toxic. It works by damaging the bug's exoskeleton, which makes it dry out and die. Sprinkle it all over the carpet, then take a broom and sweep it in. You can use it on pet bedding, sofas, people's beds, wherever you want. I use it for ants by mixing it with pancake syrup. It doesn't matter whether they eat it or just get it on them.
I had 2 lizards and a baby, so I didn't want poisons in the house either.
I think diatomaceous earth will work too.

Try penny royal. It's an herb and fleas hate it. I steep it like a tea and put it in a spray bottle or wrap the dried herb in a handkerchief and tie it around my dogs neck.

I don't know any remedies but I do know that if you vacuum your carpet, you have to get rid of the bag because they can get out of the vacuum once it is turned off.

Good luck!
