I live in MN, and the ice on our lake is 7-8 inches thick. We went skating and built a fire. The fire only melted 1-2 inches of ice, and was burning for an hour or so. There's no snow here yet, so it's beautiful skating.

i really did build one. The melted spot already froze up again. (we shoveled the coals into a wheelbarrow so the ice would be smooth)

Oh yeah, used to do that all the time, in fish shacks on Lake Emily, middle northern MN. Also on Deerwood Lake, and Lake Crosby, I think it was called. Emily was where we went most.

A fellow Minnesotan, must be up north, too warm near the Twin Cities, I wouldn't even go on the ice down here yet.
