the email would have a virus attached to some fake image or whatever attachment.
well, do i get infected just by opening the email? by reading it?
are there some virus that work that way? thnx

If your email client or web browser (for web mail) automatically displayed HTML messages or if they actioned Javascript or ActiveX directives, then yes, it is possible.

Yes it is possible. There have been exploits that have worked exactly as you say. However, if you keep your Windows 100% patched and updated with all critical updates then the chances are very remote that you will become infected by simply opening an e mail.

But downloading an e mail attachment or clicking on a link in an e mail is of course very risky and a good way to get a worm or virus.

Yes, if you use Outlook Express or maybe even Outlook you can get a virus simply by opening the email, it may not even need to have an attachment.

there are 3 ways an infection can get into you computer, downloads(that covers trojans cookies and 3rd party cookies, an email is a download, porn sites. and transfers from, un scanned USB devices. Invest in a copy of Malware Bytes, it will be the best $25 you ever spent and run it in protection mode. Only open emails you know who they are from, if in doubt don't open and delete

just opening an email wouldnt hurt u but if u download and run the fake attached files in those spam email, u might wanna watch out

oh yes! better to disable preview pane in express so it won't automatically open then right click on it and 'scan for virus' in your virus checker

Maybe they do,thats why Outlook Express blocks images when you read it.

Yes, there is a very good chance. But I use AVG, which has an email-scanner, so no worries! :-)
