Nylon halters are machine washable, use cold water and a low spin cycle and put them in with a few towels ar the metal parts will bang on your washer and drive you crazy. Allow them to air dry. Don't use anything on leather tack that is not specifically made to care for leather. Murphy's oil soap is a good all around leather cleaner, but be careful what you use, leather can be easily damages. Don't use excessive amounts of water with the leather or it will bloat.

Leather can be fairly sensitive when it comes to cleaning, so to keep it looking good, i would only use leather cleaner. Leather is porous: meaning it has small holes in it, because it used to be an animals skin, and animals have pores. Leather stays soft when you put fat back into the leather. The leather originally had the animals fat, but after being used, that starts to go away through the pores. So you have to put the fat back in. Leather cleaners and conditioners are made to keep the fat in, and to add more fat. Thats why they feel so oily. Ive had one bridle for five years now, and it looks great because ive kept the fat in it by oiling it. Plus well oiled tack is safe, because tack that is dry will break under pressure. As for machine washing a nylon halter, ive never done it but i dont think it could hurt anything...

nylon can be machine washable. the nylon tack should come with washing instructions. be careful though because machine washing can damage the thread that sews the tack together. As far as cleaning leather tack, you are supposed to use a little bit of soap and water to clean heavy dirt and stuff off. You can get away with wiping it down with a damp wash cloth every once and a while. I prefer Leather New. Just spray it on and wipe it off. Most synthetic tack can be wiped off with just a damp wash cloth as well. Check the washing instructions included with the tack ( new) to find out what the cmanufacturer suggests.

Should be, but use cold water to limit fading, mild soap to avoid weakening and wrap the buckle to avoid damaging the washer drum. You can use plain glycerine soap (sparingly as it can cause the leather and stitching to rot). You may be able to use Murphy's Oil Soap (check the label or ask at your tack shop), but I've always liked the Horseman's One Step.

Wash your halter in lukewarm water because they will shrink in hot. Try using baby oil on your tack.
