I don't think that is the problem. The real problem is that for each mouse you see there are another 50 you are not seeing. So if you gave that one a free trip and it did not find its way back there are still 50 more look alikes that might come into view.
Why would you want to let it go? It could have fleas and spread the Hanta virus. It is certainly chewing on your house, leaving its droppings, and looking for your food stuffs to have for a meal. Catch it in a spring trap and bag the trap for garbage disposal.

Mice travel over their entire territory daily, investigating each change or new object that may be placed there. Mice do not travel far from their nest, about 12 to 20 feet.
Generally, people do not go to the extent of live trapping mice and releasing them that far away. However, if a mouse is seen again in the home, it is usually due to the fact there was more than one to begin with. In most cases, though, if you were to release a mouse a mile away from home, it would generally find a new home in close proximity to where you left it. Hope this helps.

Well, I don't scientifically know the answer to this, but I know that I caught a mouse in my house with a Have-a-Heart trap (or whatever it's called that doesn't kill them) and let it go just across the street from my house in a field, and I've never had one since. So either they can't find they're way back, or a hawk swooped down and ate it, I can't be sure.

yes it does sometimes.
the best way to get rid of the rats is to kill them.
dont use mortein-ratkill. it is useless.
the pest control agencies are the best people, if there are many more rats in your home.
the other rodenticides in the market require u to stop rats from having water (by closing toilets, bathrooms wash-basins in the night ) once they consume the poison.
people living in jain suuoundings can never get rid of the rats, as jains do not kill any creature, and thus the pests keep spreading in their neighbourhood from their homes.
keeping a cat to kill rats in home is often not considered a good idea, as it is nearly impossible to give them toilet-training, and they keep dirtying the home.
wooden furntures in home must have poison-based polishing to avoid easy entry of pest in homes.
