I have worked in the same job for 3 years and as far as I know, it is my word against the customers, since it all happened on the phone, without being recorded.

As virtuous as it may not be, I was already called on the carpet for this and I as a reflex, I immediately denied it. The majority of people here on this site say to admit it, that's all well and good, but I've already denied it. They sent me home early, and In the morning they will tell me what they are going to do. So now my story will be inconsistant and I'll have to admit I lied too. Now, what should I do tommorrow?

You should own up to it, and take your lumps. One thing I've learned is not to cover up your mistakes, because, when you're eventually discovered, your punishment is much worse.

It is always better if the employee admits what they have done wrong. If you had informed your boss about what you had done before the complaint came in, your boss would have been in a better position to deal with the complaint, because he'd know the whole story and what to expect. A bit of warning goes a long way.
If you make the customer out to be a liar, word will spread about the bad service they recieved. Bad news for you, business goes down, you lose your job.

If the customer is psycho and making it up, I'm sure your boss will catch on. Over-reacting psycho customers are a dime a dozen.
But if you did say it, which, who can blame you, just say sorry you were caught up in the heat of the moment and that it won't happen again. If youve been there 3 years I doubt you'll get fired over one incident.

my opinion stick to your guns keep denying it no one should take sh*it from customers your going to look bad by changing your story and they are not going to trust you after that . if they let you go there are plenty more jobs out there hopefully it wont come to that but i know customers can be very disrespectful and rude and no one should have to sit there and be humiliated in front of people so they can take there anger out on you . so what if you did i would of too good luck
