Cheap Trick....they have been a band for over 30 years and still continue to make amazing songs just like the hits of the 70's....plus..they have the most devoted fans, myself included, who love them..PLUS, they play as hard as they did when they were in their 20s and Robin Zander's voice has to be one of the greatest rock voices EVER...

The Moody Blues. They've been together 40 years, have sold millions if not billions of records/cds worldwide, sell out concerts every time they tour, basically invented progressive rock and they can't get elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Or maybe its the Hall of Shame.

It's not a band, but I think Tori Amos is highly underrated. Very few people I know have even heard of her even though she has been around for over a decade. Her lyrics are so powerful, and her voice is amazing.. I get goosebumps every time I listen to her.

STP is a good pick. Kind of in the same era, I thought Blind Melon was great. Not because of the overplayed bee song, but their other music was great. Another great one was Silverchair. Those dudes put out some good music at a young age. Too bad drugs killed off a lot of the grunge era bands, ie: Melon, Chains, Nirvana...
Going a little further back, I always thought Faith No More was good.

Swervedriver or Catherine Wheel. Both bands got close to a big break about the same time as Oasis but were a lot better.

Echo & the Bunnymen. They got rave reviews, yet the public only liked "Lips Like Sugar" and "The Killing Moon." They managed to realease a string of near-flawless albums in the 1980s, but they were as commercially successful as they should have been. Maybe if those U2 wankers hadn't been around, this band could've been "it."

Gotta go with Styx. This band sold a gazillion records, tapes and CDs, filled stadiums and concert halls the world over and, come Grammy time, or American Music Award time....were totally ignored as the "Rock" Genre tends to be.
Styx it is.
(And if you want my opinion for most underrated singer: Warren Zevon.)
