You would get arrested by the nuclear non-members of the nuclear non-proliferation league, thrown into a dark and dank cell somewhere in innermost outer Mongolia, held in isolation till you cracked, and then labelled a terrorist, deported to Carjackistan and shunned by the locals till you converted to Animism.

I would think that if you got one of those huge bastards it would be pretty impressive. First, you need to insulate it so you can get it really really deep without melting. Then you set the thing off in a lava pool that is surrounded by rock. As a result you would push lava into existing cracks and faults and cause them to grow and then you have lava spewing out of cracks in the earth. How big depends on the a lot of thing but I think it would be a sight to see.

I base this on the idea that you have a much more efficient transfer of energy in a liquid (lava) and pushing a high viscosity liquid into a crack is a good way to get it grow.

Well I guess it would melt.

Now if you donated one, I guess if it cracks the cool lava it would most likely cause the volcano to go bang once more. Other than that you now have a volcano that glows in the dark for a week or so.

The result would be the same as that you would see after throwing a large dill pickle into a volcano.

depends. if the nuke is an air-explosive one it may go boom and direct all energy downward and cause all hell to break loose in the ground lava. or it may be a ground one and then it will just throw off some lava out.

It would just taint the eruptive material with radioactivity and harmful elements. If it came out in a flow, not a big deal, because the material would be sealed inside the lava after it cooled. If it came out in the ash/gas... big problem...potential to spead the radioactivity worldwide.

that would be a cool experiment, it would depend on the tonnage of the warhead and the size & location of the volcano, im sure you would get different results every time you try
