I agree that HP makes some good printers, but any printer you buy will be compatible with a Dell computer. The only thing to look at is if the printer is made for Windows, Mac, etc.
I cannot think of any brands on the market now that wouldn't work. Printers are made for the operating system not for the specific brand of computer. Desktop printers have become a fairly standardized thing and are compatible with every modern computer.

RE:
Which printers are compatible with Dell computers? Besides the actual Dell printers?
I havent had good experience with Dell printers so I am thinking of buying another brand that will be compatible with my Dell computer.

Any new brand of computer printer should be compatible with a Dell computer, such as HP, Lexmark, Canon, Brother. Just make sure you have a free USB port on your computer and the printer uses a USB connection (it will usually say in the description or on the box, almost all new printers can use USB).

Compatibility isn't the issue. The problem is that you either use the printer infrequently or are using refilled or third party cartridges and your print head is dry. You will need to run several print head cleanings to see if you can remedy this. On a brother you have a button that says "ink" hit that and scroll through until you see an option that says clean print heads or clean nozzles. Hit OK. Hopefully after a couple print head cleaning you will see some improvement. However if it has been quite sometime (more than a couple months) since you last printed successfully. Then it may be time for you to replace the whole darn printer. Or have the print head serviced.

Hewlett-Packard produces good printers. All I've owned are Dell computers, but I've always had an HP printer.

All PC printers on the market works with any PC!
Connectivity is the issue! USB, network, parallel cable!
Any computer can be made to use any of these methods of connectivity. Parallel Cable is standard!
