Sulfamethoxaxole is an antibiotic used to fight infections. TMP stands for trimethoprim. Are you sure it isnt trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole or TMP/SMX (SMX is the abbreviation for sulfamethoxazole? When those two are combined, it's called cotrimoxazole. It manufactured under the brand names Bactrim and Septra. TMP/SMX also fights protozoa as well as bacteria, and it's used a lot for HIV and AIDS patients to fight opportunistic infections. It is also commonly used to fight pnuemonia if I remember correctly. While in college I worked at a program that helped people with their medications (mainly the elderly, but some had other problems), and that's what I remember about it.
