Yes!! My daughter was the same. We wrapped her up like they did in the hospital. When done correctly, the first time we did it, she slept for 6 hours!!!! Try doing that to see if it works! :) Also you might want to review what you are eating. Stay away from things that might cause gas (beans, cauliflower, onions, corn, etc.) Also try to stay off of milk for a day or two to see if that helps. Good luck!

I'm glad you ask that question, Amanda, and I'm hoping someone will come up with a good answer. My granddaughter has the same problem that you describe and both parents are at wits end as what to do. Both parents are exhausted. The doctor has assured them that nothing is wrong and time will take care of the problem. The baby is now two months old.
I'm adding this after the first part. Check out www.ClubMom.com!
This site has a good article on crying baby/colic. The information made good sense.

I think that yr baby isnt getting his full quota of milk at one sitting and he remains hungry.& That probably also explains the gas problem. If the stomach is not full after feeding, gas fills in.
you may breastfeed during the day , but try giving him a bottle full of milk at night before going to sleep and see if he sleeps a little longer till its time for his next feed.
Also do feed him some water occasionally..... during the day .

At 2 weeks old, waking every 2 hours to feed is NORMAL. Only babies on TV come home and sleep through the night. :-) Your baby needs to eat frequently around the clock at this tender age. His tummy is the size of his fist and breastmilk digests in about 90 minutes. This means a feeding routine of every 2 hours (start of one to the start of the next) is very normal. He is trying hard to double his birthweight by 6 mos. Plus, at 2 weeks of age he is hitting a growth spurt. Bring him into bed with you and you'll both get more sleep. (Just follow safe cosleeping guidelines.) And make sure that you sleep when he sleeps right now.....don't expect to get all your sleep at night. At only 2 weeks postpartum, you should be taking naps with him.

actually doesn't sound to abnormal for a newborn. breastmilk is so well and so thoroughly digested that they need to eat more than a bottle fed baby.
the fussiness could be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. to fix that nurse just on one each feeding. do that for 2 weeks or so then up to a 4 hour period on one side before switching to the other. you'r body will adjust to this and it will give baby more of the hindmilk.

It takes a newborn a while to sleep a lot at night, though it can vary greatly from baby to baby. Have you considered anything that might be upsetting him in your diet? For me when my daughter was very young I had to cut out many things: spicy foods, mexican, italian, and anything with cooked tomatoes.

Good luck! And hang in there...these first few weeks and months are so precious. Just enjoy this time!

I would have to say that its normal...I have the same thing happening to me and I am on my second child. When hes not eating enough and loosing too much weight then there might be a problem. If you are getting scared don't be afraid to call the dr or nurse line, its there job to help you out. Don't be embaressed either, most moms go through the same thing.

BFing actually is easier on babys so it digests faster so they need to feed more often. Every 2 hours sounds right on... some need BF ever 1 1/2... so be glad u get that extra 1/2 hour! Good luck... it gets better!

my daughter was a great sleeper... and I didn't have that problem.. he is only 2 weeks old, he could have his nights and days turned around. Sounds like he is in pain. I would be worried and take him to er. Maybe really bad gas. Has he been pooping ok (could be constipated)

Try and give him some gas drops. Have you gave him any? And you can lay him on his belly, with you around, and rub his back. That helped my daughter. But have you talked to the doctor? Try that too.
