I will be 37 wks this coming Sunday. I go to see my doc this Wed. He, my doctor has suggested me allowing him to induce me then. I thought that is a bit early being that I will be 36 1/2 wks. I think he is only suggesting it because he doesn't want me going into labor on Christmas or something which then he would have to leave home and come deliver my baby. Does this sound selfish on my doctor's part or am I being a bit sensitive?

No I am not having any problems in this pregnancy. He just said, "you know we can go ahead and induce you this Wed. and get it over with before Christmas."
I didn't particularly like the suggestion.

I would tell your doctor that when your baby is ready to come, then that is when you will have him. If you don't like the idea, then just say so. Remember, you are paying this person to do you a service and you do have a say in what happens. Sure it might seem great to him to get it over with, but I myself would prefer to let nature take its course.

Be careful. With my second child I was induced @ 39 wks. I was in labor for 23 hours and ended up having an emergency c-section. Its a lot of stress on you and the baby. Plus I had to stay in the hospital for 5 days, which sucked. Everyone is different obviously, but do you wanna take the chance and possibly get stuck in the Hospital during Christmas???

I would be extremely suspicious of the motives there. Barring some medical emergency, no doctor in their right mind would SUGGEST that you induce early. 36 1/2 weeks? That's not even considered full term! 37 weeks is considered full term. There have been babies born at 39 weeks that have wound up in the NICU due to problems. There is no way I would let him induce me that early without a REALLY valid reason. The well-being of your baby comes first.

I think that is just too soon. I had my second baby at 36 weeks (preeclampsia) and it was sooo scary. He was tiny and we were worried he wouldn't be able to come home from the hospital with us. I say tell your doctor no and that if you haven't gone into labor on your own by 38 weeks then you will let him induce. Other than that you have to protect your baby. Your the mommy now!! Good luck and Congrats!!!

I would not let him induce you early... if there is not emergency to do so, then say no!!!!!! The longer they stay in there the better..... personal experience.... my sis was induced at 37 1/2 weeks, because her doc wanted to go on vacation... and my niece almost died... her lungs were not completely developed and she spent the 1rst month of her life in the neonatal ICU!!!!!! Don't do it..... for the sake of the baby.... when the baby is ready, it will come not any earlier.... it you happen to go past your due date, then it is fine to induce. but not before then.....

Doctors do this when they are expecting a vacation too. You will have to make your own decision, but I know a midwife who thinks induction might be the cause of some cases of autism. Just be aware that if your Dr. IS away at the time of your labor and delivery, you will have a different Dr. that doesn't know you and might not give a care! Find your peace inside of yourself. Most babies are born perfectly in America. Good Luck.

No it's definitely not selfish on your part. In my opinion, your baby needs to come when it's going to come...not when the doctor wants it to come because of VACATION!
It is so challenging to be due around a time of a holiday, especially this time of year. Just stand up for what you want and don't take anything less! Good luck to you!

Let him suggest all he wants. When YOU are ready and comfortable, then you can do what you want to. I do believe that you need to be in charge of your own pregnancy, and don't let a doctor talk you into doing anything that will make you uncomfortable. Good luck! Enjoy your new blessing when they arrive!

hey don't let the doctor tell you what to do. Let your baby come when he/she is ready. Booohooo poor doctor. He wanted to become a doctor so he should know what the consiquinces were. Sorry if i sound a bit rude but my doctor was the SAME way.

I for one am totally against Dr's inducing labor. Only for medical emergencies would I ever allow it. This is my opinion though.
